Play as... costumes

I would like to write a bit about costumes. Most people like to wear them sometimes but don't think about them so deeply or meaningfully.

In ancient cultures, costumes would be worn to symbolize divine forces, spirits, or heroes from times past. They were important part of ancient rituals.

When you dress up as something, you summon the energy of that being or thing to come and sit with you for a time. You are still fully human, but you have added an extra layer of complexity on top of yourself.

It allows us to "play as" something for a night or a day.

🐒🦋

We can experience ourself with a new flavor.

When you chose a costume for yourself, pick carefully, because you will begin to embody that thing, even if temporarily. With intention, the results can be more long lasting.

If you chose a "dark" or "scary" costume, it doesn't mean you are going to become evil, it may just be part of yourself which needs to be expressed in a healthy way. We all have dark parts of us.

If you have decided to dress as the opposite sex, that is also wonderful! Our masculine and feminine sides need also time to play and explore, whether you are a man or a woman.

Whatever you chose, experiment this year with trying out different ways to "become" that thing you have dressed as. Do some research, how does that being move, talk, dance, interact with others?

Take some time to practice in the mirror "becoming" your chosen costume.

🎭🌞

Purim, halloween (or any other day) can become much more fun this way!
